Empty dining room

I'm sorry I haven't posted for a while. After moving in, the house continues to be in a state of disarray. Boxes are all over the place and I swear we'll still be sorting through them all come 2013. We spent almost everything we have on the nice house, so there wasn't really anything left over for furniture. It'll take us a while to accumulate the things we are missing and replace the things that don't look right. By way of example, I present our dining room:

It looks awesome, but its functionality is somewhat impaired by the lack of a number of key features.

  1. I understand. John and I are quite in the same boat. Many of our rooms will look incomplete or off for about the first year or so until we can buy some new to replace the old, or buy some things for the first time. That's what happens when you move from an apartment to a house!

    1. Except that my wife and I used to live in a house and had half our stuff in storage. It's just that the old stuff doesn't look right in the new house, and the new house is slightly bigger than the old house.

The dining room is actually quite small, so it is going to be a challenge to find the right dining room table to seat 6-8 people without being too big for the space.

  2. I think that is a common problem. Our dining room looks very similar - only thing in there is a rug. We plan on buying a nice set but it's been low on the priority list since we have the morning room that we use as our daily eating area. My goal is to have furniture there by Thanksgiving this year...that will be 17 months after we moved in!

  3. We have a few rooms that still need furniture and ALL rooms need decorating and organization help. My goal is to have all boxes unpacked by summer. We'll see if that actually happens. More needed than that, I would love to be able to actually park my car in the garage. I don't see that happening for a bit :( Not fair since hubby's car is in there while mine has to stay out in the elements.

  4. We still haven't got any drapes up after a month. We bought some drapery hardware for our master bedroom from Bed Bath and Beyond on Saturday and we were shocked at how expensive stuff like that has become.

  5. We'll be adding/replacing things as well. I think it's what most people do.
